On October 7th 2017, the Northeast Combined Women’s League, St. Paul’s Fellowship and SMSOUL Retreat was held at St. Mary’s Bergenfield, NJ. A group of young women gathered and participated in both the joint and SMSOUL events.
The topics discussed included bridging the gap between the different generations and cultures; the negative impact of slanderous gossip; and perceived gender roles. The event was an opportunity for the various age groups to interact and learn from each other.
ABOUT SMSOUL
SMSOUL, St. Mary’s SOUL (Syrian Orthodox Unity and Leadership), is to serve as a young woman’s spiritual fellowship to provide a secure support system and to foster fellowship between young women across the archdiocese. The goal is to help young women of the church strive to be the models that Christ wants them to be, and empower each other through education of the Syrian Orthodox faith, leadership, and unity while maintaining the traditions of the Jacobite Faith. The group is hoping to serve as a catalyst to bridge the gap between the youth and the adults in our church, and prepare the young women of the church to take roles in St. Mary’s Women’s League.
